Nobody knows exactly how many sports officials live and work in Maine, but a recent Maine Sports Officials survey (Nov. 2021) showed that the average Maine high school sports official works 1.55 sports, is between the ages of 55-59, drives over 1,000 miles a year to get to their assignments, and has more than 20 years experience working one or more sports each school year.
Maine Sports Officials is an umbrella organization under which the various, and numerous state, regional, and local sports officials associations can find common ground, place to discuss issues that affect us all, and even help recruit new officials from within and from outside our ranks.
Did you know that there are more Maine sports officials (20.4%) between the ages of 60-64 than in any other 5-year age bracket? Or that 26% plan on retiring within the next four years? Or than 68% of all Maine high school sports officials today are over the age of 50?
Maine Sports Officials is dedicated to providing support and assistance to Maine's many various sports officials associations, boards, and organizations.
