The Maine Association of Volleyball Officials is recognized by the Maine Principals Association as the official board for Maine high school girls volleyball. MAVO also is the state board for USA Volleyball, and officiates collegiate volleyball in three conferences within the state.

We offer excellent training for high school, college, and club volleyball officials.

Classes begin in July, and training runs from August throughout the season (high school and college seasons are concurrent in September and October, and occasionally in November. Club volleyball officiating opportunities begin in December and go through early May).

Registration begins May 1. Ends June 30.

Registration fee: $60 per season

Exams: Online thru NFHS by mid-August

Assignments typically begin at 4 or 4:30 p.m.

MAVO offers a "Rookie Official Boot Camp" for new officials and those who are interested in seeing what becoming a volleyball official entails.

"One of the unique things about being a volleyball official is that virtually every assignment is at least a JV/Varsity doubleheader (occasionally it is a Fr/JV/Varsity triple header). In 2023, our paychecks will start at $165 + mileage for a JV/Varsity doubleheader."
